INSTALLATION & STABILITY

Tile installation requires a level subfloor and proper underlayment. If installed professionally, tile flooring will last a lifetime.

SOUND & FEEL

Tile feels firm underfoot, but its hard surface can also amplify sound. Adding area rugs can increase comfort and reduce noise.

MOISTURE RESISTANCE

Glazed ceramic and porcelain tile is highly water resistant, but natural stone’s water repellence can differ. Granite and slate are more moisture tolerant, but marble and limestone are more porous.

EVIRONMENTAL CAPABILITY

Tile is a sustainable flooring choice, made from natural materials and often recyclable. It works well with radiant heating systems and can even improve indoor air quality. It’s also a great choice for shower walls.

DURABILITY

Porcelain and ceramic are very durable and nearly scratch proof. Natural stone varies in its durability according to its type. Some marbles and limestone are softer and may not be suitable for extreme traffic conditions.

COST

While porcelain and ceramic are generally affordable, the required setting materials and installation process makes tile the most expensive flooring option we offer.

TYPES OF TILE

CERAMIC TILE

Ceramic Tile is made from clay. These can be glazed or unglazed. Glazed tile is fired twice, which gives it a glass-like coating that resists stains, scratches, and moisture. Sometimes colors are added during the glazing process, increasing style options.

PORCELAIN TILE

Like ceramic tile, porcelain tile is made of clay, but it can contain up to 50% feldspar, a glasslike crystal, that increases its durability.

TILE  CARE

DAILY CARE & MAINTENANCE

Cleaning tile should be quite easy—just sweep, wet mop, and vacuum as needed. Investing in entryway mats and floor protectors under furniture is a great extra step to ensure your flooring remains in top condition.

SPILLS AND STAINS

Wipe up spills with a clean cloth and dry well, as tile can be very slippery when wet. Make sure any cleaning products you use are manufacturer approved and grout compatible. Never use acids, vinegar, chlorine, or ammonia on tile, as they will cause discoloration or damage.
